72 - Thank you to…
I just want to extend a thank you to three wonderful people who helped out with a recent article.
As all writers know, most features need some developer comment and expert quotes to help give experienced perspective, validate or contradict the author’s preconceptions and give the piece an air of authority.
Now, I don’t expect everyone to write back to me. They’re busy making awesome games and I’m slumming it in my pants writing drivel into Google Docs. We’re not exactly on the same level. So I didn’t expect Tim Schafer or Ron Gilbert to help out on my article for Resolution about comedy in games (but I did ask them!)
But if you’re not going to help, let’s not say “Sure I’ll help”, ask for a deadline, accept that deadline and then never write back again. It really doesn’t help the creative process when you think that you’ve got about seven people who have promised to answer a very small amount of questions, and only a pathetic three write back.
It meant my article was rushed and the initial pitch had to be changed considerably; it’s hard to hold a neutral argument when everyone who writes back is “for”.
So yes, onto the thank yous. My sincere thanks to James Silva from Ska Studios, Matt Davis from Barkers Crest Studios and Tim from Fabricated Reality. Support their games, buy them a pint and take a bullet for them.
