62 - Adverts that steal from creative people

Any advert you watch on television with a hint of creativity or a slight trace of imagination, has probably been done before on YouTube. Some pleb who works for an advertising company called “Zebo” or “Swish” or “Arseholes Anonymous” was probably faffing about online one day and came across some unique video on the internet’s most popular video site. Maybe it’s OK GO’s treadmill music video, some kid sending a chair into space or just a funny little skit.

Hey hey hey, thinks Sabian, too cool for a last name (or a proper first name, for that matter), sipping his pretentious blend of coffee and stroking his silly facial hair. This isn’t copyrighted! Awesome!

And that’s how you get a Will Ferrel skit on FunnyorDie.com to become an almost exact rip off for a Haribo advert. They don’t need to go under the pretence of spoof or parody because about 1% of the audience has actually seen the original video - so they just get away with it.

Look at the comments. “the best advert ever, ‘Look Into My Eyes!!!’”, “lovee it she is sooo funii x”, “wow man this ad is bangin man its really funny ’ alrite sunshine !! LooL”.

Sickening.

Here is a website I found on my Twitter that puts YouTube vids and the ads that rob from them, side by side. I feel it is in the spirit of the website to not find out who tweeted the link and give them no credit because I feel that their effort is absolutely valueless.
